Scale, Demand & New Generation

India's installed power capacity crossed 520 GW in early 2026 and the system met an all-time peak demand of 256.1 GW in April. Demand growth is creating parallel openings across generation equipment, plant modernisation, controls, efficiency, resource adequacy and flexible capacity.

Solar, Wind & Hybrid Renewables

Renewable capacity reached 288.58 GW by June 2026, led by 162.15 GW of solar and 57.44 GW of wind. With another large pipeline under construction, India offers opportunities in modules, inverters, turbines, hybrid systems, O&M, forecasting, asset analytics and project services.

Transmission & Green Energy Corridors

The 220 kV-and-above transmission network is planned to expand from about 0.50 million circuit km in February 2026 to 1 million+ circuit km by 2032, while inter-regional capacity rises from 120 GW to 168 GW. Grid expansion creates demand for HV equipment, substations, power electronics, protection and digital grid technologies.

Energy Storage & Grid Flexibility

As of June 2026, 15.75 GW / 42.53 GWh of BESS capacity was under construction, with additional capacity awarded and tendered; 15.87 GW / 95.22 GWh of pumped storage was also under construction. The emerging market spans cells, PCS, EMS, safety, integration, optimisation and storage-as-a-service models.

Smart Distribution & Digital Utilities

RDSS has sanctioned smart metering for 197.9 million consumers plus feeder and transformer meters, alongside SCADA/DMS, GIS, ERP, billing and real-time data systems. India Energy Stack adds a future data-exchange layer — opening utility-tech opportunities across AMI, analytics, cyber security, outage management and customer platforms.

Green Hydrogen & Industrial Decarbonisation

The National Green Hydrogen Mission targets at least 5 MMT of annual green hydrogen production by 2030, supported by a programme outlay of about $2.4 billion. Electrolyser manufacturing incentives, green ammonia offtake, refinery projects and hydrogen hubs create entry points across technology, engineering, storage, controls and industrial partnerships.
